TWO goals at the start of the second half were enough to see Exeter beat Argyle in a reserve team Devon derby at Home Park on Monday afternoon.

Exeter thought they had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when a shot from striker Jake Reid hit the underside of the crossbar and seemed to bounce down over the goal-line.

However, play was allowed to continue by the match officials and it stayed 0-0.

Exeter opened the scoring in the 47th minute when Spanish striker Guillem Bauza fired low into the bottom left corner of the net.

Midfielder Elliott Frear then doubled their lead three minutes later with a well-placed strike.

Bauza and defender Jordan Moore-Taylor both had headers hit the bar after that, with Argyle unable to come up with any response.

On-loan Reading striker Gozie Ugwu was substituted by the Pilgrims in the 32nd minute because of an injury.

“I think this does show that Ugwu is too injury prone , that Chadwick is useless, that PCH will not cut it at league level and that once promising youngsters like Le cointe and Vassell are unlikely to make the break through we had once hoped for.Whether we stay up or go down a massive clear out is needed this Summer.”

“Surprised it was only 2-0 with what is basically Argyle's first XI playing.”
