The fire is thought to have started in a caravan parked in a private car park just beneath the Fore Street bridge over Western Way.
Two fire engines, from the city's Danes Castle and Middlemoor stations, were called after reports of the blaze, which sent flames soaring almost to the level of the bridge and left the side of a building badly scorched.

The caravan was already well alight when the fire crews arrived and they use water and a compressed air foam jet to fight the fire.
No-one was in the caravan at the time. A thermal imaging camera was used to check adjacent properties for any fire spread and police were then called in.
Two cars parked nearby were badly damaged with headlights melted by the heat.
