Police warning after men charged with counterfeit money crimes in Exeter

Two men have been charged with having custody or control of £940 worth of counterfeit money in Exeter.

Eighteen year old Alfonse Tourino from Portsmouth was charged with offences under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act following a check by police in Exeter on Monday 11 March 2013.

    The men were charged charged with having custody or control of £940 counterfeit Scottish notes

Faried Irani, 25 years and also from Portsmouth was charged with having custody or control of £940 counterfeit Scottish notes and with another offence of passing a counterfeit Scottish £20 note.

Both men were arrested following the stop check at around 9.00 a.m. in South Street in the city before being interviewed at Heavitree Road Police Station.

Mr. Irani was then bailed to appear before Exeter Magistrates on Thursday 13 June 2013, Mr. Torino was kept in custody overnight pending his appearance before Magistrates this morning (12 March 2013).

Police have advised that anyone who believes they have taken a counterfeit note should let them know by calling 101 (log 0160).
