EXETER'S very own pop-up painter is to be artist in residence – at a city hairdressing salon.

Jane Rock gets her title by popping up at local public events and venues, and drawing people doing what people do.

She explained: "My technique is a little out of the ordinary as I draw without looking at the paper.

"The outcome has been described as Beryl Cook meets Gerald Scarfe. Colourful and not always flattering, the characters often bear a surprising resemblance to life."

Jane, who has a stall at Exeter's Cathedral Green for the Exeter Craft Festival, will be artist in residence for the day at a local hairdressing salon, Karen Levertons. She said: "The results of my day's work will be exhibited at the salon and a percentage of any proceeds made will be donated to FORCE cancer support charity, where I am a volunteer."
