THEY are necking back pints of firsts to quench their thirsts at an Exeter pub this month.

The Barn Owl, in Honiton Road, near Sowton Industrial Estate, is holding a special beer event throughout September, naming it a Festival of Firsts — and lots of drinkers are calling for seconds.

Topping the original and pioneering tipples are Britain's first carbon neutral beer, the tasty Adnams East Green and Britain's first certified organic beer, Caledonian Golden Promise,

"They all have very nice names and taste good, too, " said Barn Owl manager Craig Holmes.

"The Adnams East Green is very good, I can vouch for that. We have also got a vintage inn ale, brewed by Wells and Young and the UK's first Red Tractor label ale, which means the contents are all home produced.

"This is the first festival of its kind that we have held here and the reaction so far from customers has been very good."
