ART TRIP: Mary Waterer, 12, and other pupils from the West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight visited Exeter Phoenix gallery
The art was created as part of a project entitled Sense of Place, where pupils worked with the Devon Record Office and Double Elephant Print Workshop to explore the history of the area around their school through art. Inspired by the archive at the Devon Record Office, the children explored routes around the school and surrounding area.
They mapped the school by creating heavily textured collagraphs to discover how it has changed since the 1840s.
Harryot Powell, 13, said: "I enjoyed the project a lot as it taught me something new.
"I was surprised there was a church and graveyard near our school in the past."
Over several months the pupils explored textures that could be used to represent mapped landscapes and created their own maps.
