SOME Green Teams like bugs!

That certainly seems to be the case at Clyst Heath Community Primary where not only has the Green Team been busy building a bug hotel – they have even re-furbished it!

And jolly comfortable it looks too.

Clyst Heath's Green Team is made up of two members from each class and they have been celebrating the completion of the second branch on their first tree.

That meant a cheque for £50 from Green Team sponsor Gregory Distribution and it was presented at a special assembly.

The whole school will help decide which green project the money will be spent on.

So how was the latest branch filled?

The Green Team was involved in the building of a willow arch, the planting of a strawberry bed and the building of a tower made from old tyres in which they grew some tasty carrots.

Another major challenge for the green Team has been to make sure that EVERYONE shuts doors behind them.

The school has a lot of doors and, obviously when it is cold, it is very important to try as hard as possible to keep the heat in the school and so cut down on energy bills.

The Green Team held an assembly about renewable energy and created posters for each door which reminds people about the importance of closing them.

The Green Team has also been charging ahead with rechargeable batteries.

They carried out an audit of each item in the classrooms that needed batteries and then encouraged teachers to sign a pledge that they would only use rechargeable batteries – then the special batteries and rechargers were bought.

The Green Team is also about coming up with an idea for the work that will be done in creating a salvage garden.

This is a competition that is being held under the auspices of Devon Wildlife Trust and Green Team members will be putting their thinking caps on to come up with a theme for this.

And, of course, they will be working hard to fill that third tree branch.
