Teacher Sam Jones said: "We decided late last year to join the Green teams as we feel this will encourage us even more to be green at school and in the way that we live.
"The money we will earn from completing branches will allow us to invest in some new equipment for collecting fruit and vegetable waste which, in turn, will allow us to produce some great compost for growing lots of plants next season."
David Carver, nine, explained: "We are involved in composting fruit and vegetables that the younger children from St Leonard's primary are given for a morning snack." He added that it would be much better than sending it to the landfill site.
Seven-year-old Milly Cleveland thought some of the produce grown at the school this year would be nice to eat. She said: "It will encourage others to do their bit as we do ours."
The Green team meets regularly to discuss how to make the school more sustainable and to plan things that it can do in school.
Jasmine Benchouiha also seven, said: "We get to save the environment and all the activities we do are designed with this in mind."
Isobel Pinsky, eight, said: "We make up posters and do jobs so we can help the environment." Isobel is very keen to spread the word and encourage others to do the same.
Mr Jones said: "The new growing season is about to start, but we are not worried about the recent cold weather because some seeds and plants enjoy some cold weather. We are looking forward to warmer weather to prepare the growing beds."
We're sure 2010 will be a successful year for St Leonard's Green Team with lots of fun and interesting activities taking place.
