Rain fails to dampen charity car enthusiasts
ORGANISERS of the annual Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle, near Exeter, have presented a cheque for £5,000 to the cancer charity Force, even though they had to abandon the event due to adverse weather conditions.
The annual event is staged by the Crash Box & Classic Car Club of Devon and helps to raise funds for a nominated local charity.
The club originally planned to make the presentation on July 8 – the final day of their 39th Historic Vehicle Gathering – although due to the atrocious weather the show had to be abandoned.
Despite this, the club decided to "dig into" its reserves and make the charitable donation.

The presentation was made on behalf of the Crash Box Club by Mike Doherty, the rally chairman and was accepted by Merial Fishwick, the chief executive of Force.
A further cheque for £1,500 is due to be presented to Honiton Community College to help a group of students restore an MGB to a fully roadworthy condition and pass its MoT.
Mike Dalby, chairman of the Crash Box Club said: "There is a lot of enthusiasm from the students with this project and it is hoped that it will encourage the younger generation to become interested in classic cars, and promote this interesting hobby."
Next year's Historic Vehicle Gathering is due to take place on July 13/14.
