Readers delighted that loo closure plans are defeated
ECHO readers have expressed their delight that the council has dropped its plan to close 10 public toilets.
As revealed yesterday, the authority has said it will peg back a budgeted increase in staff salaries, as part of a national agreement, to save the £60,000 the toilet closures would have netted.
It marks a success for the Echo's Save Our Toilets campaign, which attracted the support of hundreds of readers.
Among the comments on our website www.thisisexeter.co.uk are:

"This was an error of judgement which has been corrected in the nick of time."

Brin, from Exeter, said: "It is only right the council should be looking at ways to make more cutbacks affecting themselves, before they consider such a ridiculous idea to cut public services we have become accustomed to, and need."
Gribble, from Cowick Street, Exeter, said: "Never in doubt once the Echo and myself and others got involved.
"Well done, everybody, fellow Exonians."
Gina, from Exeter, said: "Surely they never intended to close these toilets — it was just to cause a distraction about whether to make Paris Street two-way once more."
