PRAISE has been heaped on a city primary school by education inspectors.

Staff and pupils are celebrating at Redhills Primary School after it was rated good by schools standards agency Ofsted.

At its last inspection three years ago, the school was rated satisfactory.

Now inspectors have noted improvements across the board and recognise it has a bright future.

Following their recent visit, inspectors judged every aspect of life at the 307-pupil school as good or better.

Pupils were recognised as "keen-to-learn", achieving well and making good progress.

Inspectors said the teaching had "many strengths" and pupils' attitudes to learning were "consistently positive".

Improvement has come at a time when school inspectors have been getting tougher with their judgements.

Three Ofsted inspectors spent two days at Redhills in December. Their report concludes: "Attainment and progress have both improved since the previous inspection and pupils' achievement is now good across the school.

"Teaching is good. Pupils are keen to learn and behave well in and out of lessons. Attendance is good and above the national average.

"The progress pupils make and the standards they reach across the school have improved in recent years."

Inspectors praised the school for welcoming visitors from a range of cultures and its strong link with the community.

They noted that in order to continue improving, the school should provide more outstanding teaching that inspires children with more varied, interesting and engaging activities and ensure pupils have more opportunities to make choices about their learning and to work independently.

Jeremy Doyle, headteacher, said: "I am delighted with the very positive Ofsted report following our inspection.

"The fact that the inspectors judged all aspects of education at Redhills to be at least good demonstrates the commitment that every member of staff and every governor makes to every child in our care.

"We are proud of what we do at our school, and welcome everyone who would like to see what we do for our children every day of the year to come and visit us at any time."
