The Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was also tasked to help in the search for a vulnerable man reported missing in the early hours of yesterday. The search was stood down after a sighting by a member of the public, a canoeist at 1pm today.

The three-man volunteer crew carried out a thorough shore-line search from Shelley Beach in Exmouth, up to Countess Wear in the city of Exeter. Helmsman Charles Swales describes their route "We carried out the search as far as we could. When we ran out of water at the bridge at Countess Wear, we came back down with the tide, retracing our steps for a secondary search."
