After a two year freeze, Exeter City Council is budgeting to raise council tax in the coming financial year.

In announcing its budget strategy at a meeting of Exeter's executive last night.

The proposal is to raise council tax by two per cent, which will raise an extra £96,000 for the authority.

Councillor Pete Edwards, leader of the city council, said it was a modest increase. He told the meeting: "Most homes are in council tax band C which would mean they would be paying an extra £2.20 a year.
