Route for Plymouth Half Marathon announced
Runners from the Exeter area have been given the chance to get a early look at the new route for the Plymouth Half Marathon after G02 announced this updated course for the event on Sunday, April 28.
The Plymouth's Half Marathon, which is a popular race for runners in Devon, will once again see runners gather on the Hoe to start their 13.1mile journey around Plymouth. The course will start on the Promenade, running along the seafront to the Barbican. As the route wraps around the harbour, runners will follow a flat, straight course along Gdynia Way.

At this point the route takes a new anti-clockwise direction, as runners follow the course along Billacombe Road and Elburton road giving a more gradual climb and hopefully helping quicker run times to be set.
Between miles five and six, runners will turn directly from Elburton Rd (A379) onto Haye Rd, without having to use the underpass to cross the junction, as in previous years.

Race organiser, Amy Budd, from GO2 explains: "As Plymouth's Half Marathon grows, we want to avoid the Elburton Rd underpass, where there can be congestion during the race; we hope this will provide the potential for a quicker route and more enjoyable race experience for all of our runners."
The revised course is also good news for Plymouth's residents as Elburton Rd (A379), the main Eastern route into the city, will be re-opened earlier than usual. A map is available from www.plymouthhalfmarathon.co.uk.
The final course improvement is within Saltram Park. As Budd explains: "This new course direction includes a gentler climb at mile 4 and 5 and a new downhill stretch with estuary views through Saltram Park from mile seven, spurring runners on to the return journey."
The flat route home takes runners along Embankment Road, turning back around to pass along Gdynia Way, around the Barbican before heading back to the Hoe for the spectacular finish along the Promenade.
Budd says: "There's still time to book your place at Plymouth's Half which as regular Halfers know, has an amazing festival atmosphere. Everyone has a reason to run, so sign up at www.plymouthhalfmarathon.co.uk."
