MARTYN Rogers will hand a debut to Plymouth Argyle teenager Liam Head at Chippenham Town tonight (7.45).

The 18-year-old forward has joined the Yellows for an initial one-month loan spell and will go straight into the side for the crucial Southern League Premier Division match at Hardenhuish Park.

Head will partner leading scorer Joe Bushin up front, with Adam Mortimer missing out due to an arm injury sustained during Tivvy's 0-0 draw with Cambridge City on Saturday.

"I tried to get him at the start of the season but for one reason or another that didn't come off," said Tiverton manager Rogers.

"He came up to watch us on Saturday and we sorted everything out after the game.

"He's a big lad but he's mobile, too. He's got a good eye for goal and hopefully he can come up and do a job for us."

Rogers knows all about Head's capacity for scoring goals after the striker notched Plymouth's only goal in a 1-0 pre-season win over Tiverton.

Rogers hopes Head and defender Tom Kington — who made his debut at Stourbridge last Tuesday night after signing from Western League outfit Hengrove — will make an impact in tonight's rearranged fixture.

The Yellows will have taken some confidence from shutting out high-flying Cambridge on Saturday and the Tivvy boss is calling for a similar dogged display from his men tonight. A first attempt to play this fixture on New Year's Day was abandoned at half-time due to a frozen pitch.

"It will be a tough game up there because it always is," said Rogers. "If we play like we did on Saturday then it would be good to get something.

"We've been playing better away from home football-wise. There's probably less pressure to perform away from home. But we know it's all about results — there's no good playing well and losing."

Jamie Hatch is available after running off an ankle knock he picked up against Cambridge.
