EXETER Saracens highlighted their credentials for a second straight promotion with a 57-5 win over Saltash at Exhibition Fields on Saturday.

Sarries moved above Crediton into second spot in Cornwall and Devon having won their last six league games on the bounce.

Darren Light, Keiran Bromell and Matt Hilton all scored two tries apiece in a dominant performance from the Exeter side.

Skipper Rob Hilton, Ben Cowely, Sam Williams and Alex Moore were all also quick and strong enough to cross for the home side.

Coach Brian Sherrell said: "With league games every week from now until the end of the season Sarries will be looking forward to a strong finish to the season."

But the team that Saracens leapfrogged — Kirton — slipped up 11-6 at home to St Austell, a result which highlighted the Mid Devon side's inconsistency this term.

Tom Ronchetti grabbed two tries for the Blagdon outfit, whose chances of promotion were diminished by the result.

The side that come up with Saracens last season — Teignmouth — made their midtable berth all the more secure with a 33-10 win against Torrington.

Chris Tidman was the hero running in a try hat-trick, with Will Sowden and Lewis Beere also going over for the Teigns.

In the Devon One Promotion Division Honiton kept up the pressure on the section's top sides with a comfortable victory over the side directly above them — Salcombe.

The Lacemen are now just a point behind the side they beat 50-10 on Saturday as they look for a top-two finish and a possible play-off spot.

Steve Nex and Josh Barrett got try doubles for the away side while Andy Canniford, Jason Hannay, Chris Sampson and Bradley Spiller all also went over.

Fourth-placed Wessex are clinging to Honiton's coat-tails with a 46-17 victory at DHSOB.

Dean Meldon, Doug Neale and Sam Adams all dotted down twice, while Sam Carpenter and James Morgan were the other try scorers.

In Devon One Ranking Topsham stayed top after a 43-22 win at Dartmouth, with Colin Milkins crossing twice while there were singles for Tim Taylor, Adam Buckley, Dave Moran and Richard Williams.
