Searle soars for Eagles
DEVON SUPER LEAGUE
THE men's Premier Division was at its competitive best this week, with all four matches ending in 5-4 scorelines.
Exeter Eagles had Ryan Searle (29.47) showing good form away at Filo Beer Boyz (Bideford) and they are now the only team unbeaten after Bideford Royals A went down at Manor House (Cullompton), despite a good performance from Ian De Rosa (28.90).
Shaun Carter (29.14) inspired newly-promoted South Molton Stags to open their account against Kools (Teignmouth), for whom Steve Rice (28.90) was outstanding, while Torbay also got off the mark after beating Yeomen (Barnstaple).
In Division One Barley Mow (Exeter) are in second place after edging out Dad's Army by the narrowest of margins. Shane Joslin (28.90) won well for Barley Mow while Jason Hill (29.41) replied for the Newton Abbot side.
Mow now trail Plymouth's City Social by seven points after the leaders beat rivals Stoke Inn 7-2.
After two successive defeats, Ker St Social Club (Plymouth) returned to winning ways when they won by the narrowest of margins at Del's Boys (Sandford).
Cockney Rebels (Exeter) have moved two points clear at the top of Division Two after they inflicted on Gladstones (Exeter) a 7-2 defeat.
Second-placed Heathcoat Social Club (Tiverton) won by the same scoreline when hosting Anchor Inn (Bideford) while Heart of Oak (Exeter) emerged 6-3 winners at Torbay.
Exeter Eagles A go from strength to strength in Ladies' Division One and in taking maximum points at Anchor Inn (Bideford), secured their second 7-0 victory from just three matches.
Ann ette Lord (21.47) and Merryl Dennis (20.04) led from the front to help the Eagles to victory.
They now boast a lead of eight points over second-placed Kings (Crediton).
Kings have hit a purple patch themselves recently, and made it three wins on the bounce when beating Golden Girls (Bideford) 4-3.
St Levan Inn (Plymouth) are in third spot but have played a games less than the two sides above them and in beating Kate's Rebels (Teignmouth) 5-2, Maria O'Brien (21.05) gave a good account of herself as did Jan Dennis (21.70) for the visitors.
Tivvy Ladies (Tiverton) finally got off the mark this season when they defeated Poltimore Arms (Exeter) 4-3 after a thrilling encounter.
EXETER MIXED LEAGUE
The Mint wrapped up the league title early as they topped off a superb campaign with a 5-2 victory over the Ship & Pelican in their penultimate match of the season.
They emerged 5-2 winners after an excellent display, leaving them six points clear with one match left to play.
Devon Yeoman have moved to within two points of second placed The Shunters after taking all but one of the seven points that were on offer at Royal Oak (Nadderwater).
First and Last defeated Wells Tavern 5-2 while Railwayman edged out Ship Wreckers by the narrowest of margins.
DARTS COMPETITIONS
Wayne Brice won the sixth heat in the Legends of Darts exhibition qualifiers after beating Paul Yard 4-0 in a one-sided final.
The next heat will take place tomorrow at the The Railwayman (4pm) — entry £3.
Tickets for the exhibition at The Railwayman on Saturday October 16 are now on sale from The Railwayman priced £5. Tickets are numbered and two draws will be done on the night to determine the final two places.
