ARMY signaller Corporal Graeme Robert Walker has been presented with a campaign medal for his crucial work in helping evacuate injured British soldiers.

The 27-year-old from Newton Abbot serves with the 1st UK Armoured Division Headquarters and Signal Regiment in Germany.

He helped provide essential communications in Afghanistan to British forces so injured soldiers could be evacuated and transported back to the UK.

Cpl Walker was deployed to Afghanistan in support of the Helmand Information Communication Service, the headquarters in Bastion and other bases and camps across sites in Kandahar, Kabul and Sangin.

A military communications specialist, Cpl Walker joined the Army in 1999.

He said: "I had to ensure all the equipment worked smoothly which was a tough task considering the high temperatures we operated in.

"While we weren't on the frontlines our job was still very important, having effective communications on tour is an essential part of any operational theatre."

He was given his accolade this week at a parade at the regiment's camp in Herford, Germany.
