South West MEP in Miss Gibraltar row
A WESTCOUNTRY Tory has been accused of focusing on trivia while his political opponents are trying to save the world.
The row was sparked when Conservative South West MEP Giles Chichester released a statement congratulating the new Miss World, Kaiane Aldorino, who is also Miss Gibraltar.

The EU region of the South West includes Gibraltar and Miss Aldorino is therefore one of Mr Chichester’s constituents.
“Midst all the messages of doom and gloom about climate change” it was “one piece of good news,” Mr Chichester said. “Judging from her press photographs, the victory of the very beautiful Miss Kaiane Aldorino was well deserved.”
Liberal Democrat South West MEP Graham Watson said the episode gave a revealing insight into the Conservative Party.
He said: “I congratulate Miss Aldorino, but it will not put food on the table for struggling families, protect jobs or save the planet. Giles needs to get his priorities straight.”

“Of course he should congratulate her. She's one of his constituents. It would be rude not to have. Graham Watson should be taken to task for a cheap negative attack.”

“Ed; any chance of replacing the photo of Mr Chichester with one of Miss Aldorino?”

Thank you Graham Watson.

“South West MEP in Miss Gibraltar Congratulations Row
Floating voter Pennsylvania Pete said the episode gave a revealing insight into the Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson.
He said: ¿I congratulate Mr Watson for his political opportunism, but making this utterly pathetic point will not put food on the table for struggling families, protect jobs or save the planet. Watson needs to get his priorities straight.¿”

“Why should"nt he congratulate one of his constituents?
If it had been a girl from Exeter that had won the title, we would hope that ben bradshaw would also offer his congratulations! there are many problems confronting politicians of all persuasions both in the UK and the EU, but as yet there should be no problems with common courtesy!!”
