St Nicholas Catholic Primary School, in Ringswell Avenue, Exeter has been placed in special measures because too many pupils are underachieving.

Three inspectors from Ofsted, spent two days at the school last month – a week after a new leadership team was put in place.

They praised the hard work of the new team, but the report, which has just been published, said: “There has been too little time for the new systems to make an impact on improving either the quality of teaching or pupils’ achievement.”
