IT'S time to dig out the stone-washed denim, shoulder pads and fluorescent leg warmers because Devon is returning to the 80s.

Following the success of the first Greatest 80s Party Ever last year, Powderham Castle is hosting the concert again — with a different line-up of great stars from the era.

Marc Almond, ABC, Go West, Kid Creole and The Coconuts, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, The Three Degrees, Cutting Crew, Doctor and The Medics and Altered Images will all be performing in the castle grounds on Saturday, July 25.

With more than 50 top-20 hits between them it promises to be an evening not to be missed.

Headlining the bill is Marc Almond, who has sold more than 30 million records worldwide. Back in 1979 he formed internationally successful electro duo Soft Cell with David Ball.

Soft Cell went on to record four albums, including the seminal Non Stop Erotic Cabaret, and had a number of top-10 hits including the classic Tainted Love.

The single broke all records as the track that remained the longest in the US billboard top 100 and received a Brit award for best single of that year.

Soft Cell parted amicably in 1984 to pursue solo projects. In 2004, Marc was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle crash which left him unconscious for more than two weeks, but he was soon back on his feet and touring again. He is currently working on a new album of original material, due for release next year.

Also back with new material, as well as the classics, is cool and suave 80s pop icons ABC.

The band's debut album, The Lexicon of Love, was a huge hit in 1981 and often features in UK critics' lists of favourite albums.

Now reformed and back on the road, ABC will be performing classic songs including Poison Arrow and The Look Of Love.

Famous for its ever-changing line-up and most royal of fans, Prince Charles, is The Three Degrees. The band has been producing hits since 1963 and is best-known for the classic tracks Everybody's Going To The Moon and When Will I See You Again?

The group is also renowned for bringing female Motown music into the mainstream.

Disco king Kid Creole, who had several hits in the 70s, will be ably supported by his outrageous backing singers The Coconuts. He has now branched out into musicals, most notably the touring production of Oh! What A Night.

Also enjoying current success is the original singer-songwriter of The Cutting Crew, Nick Van Eede, who has signed new recording publishing deal and is touring with a new line-up.

The Grammy nominated Anglo-Canadian rock band originally formed in the mid 80s, and will always be remembered for its classic song (I Just) Died In Your Arms, which helped define the musical sounds of the club scene during the 80s.

Tickets for the concert cost £37.50 (plus booking fee). To book tickets via Powderham Castle telephone 01626 890243 between Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Alternatively telephone 0871 424 4444 (24-hour plus booking fee), or visit www.ticketline.co.uk.

Gates open at 6pm and the concert begins at 7.15pm.
