Start planning now to pay the extra costs
EXETER Citizens Advice Bureau is urging people to review their household budgets now to prepare for the abolition of council tax benefit.
Bureau director Steve Barriball said: "If you are paying nothing in council tax you are going to have to think about how you will meet that extra cost.
"Start planning now – don't delay until you get your bill – and consider structuring your payments over 12 months rather than the usual 10.
"It's really important people take some time to work out where their money is going and where they might be able to cut back a bit.We are trying to gear up for a surge in enquiries from people affected by a whole range of welfare reforms, not just council tax benefit.

"In an ideal world there wouldn't be any change, but the city council is caught between a rock and a hard place and have had to come up with a scheme which is the least worst option."
