Store managers in Exeter help out with the gardening
Staff from Exeter's new John Lewis store took time out from its opening preparations to do a spot of gardening.
They spent a day as volunteers at St Sidwell's Community Centre as part of John Lewis' commitment to help local communities.

Branch manager Kate Connock and four department managers helped with garden maintenance, weeding and clearing overgrown areas ready for new planting.
Kate Connock, manager of John Lewis Exeter, said: "Many vulnerable people benefit from the centre, so my department managers and I were delighted to be part of something which has such a positive impact."

John Lewis is supporting the local communities in which it trades through its Community Matters scheme. The retailer splits a donation of £3,000 between three community groups every three months, according to the proportion of customer votes it receives.

“Maybe they should consider helping the community by paying for the pelican crossing that the council refused to pay for. Saving children's lives is slightly more important than gardening.”
