Taylor eyes improvement in Cully's home comforts

CULLOMPTON Rangers manager Mike Taylor is eyeing a second home league success of the campaign on Saturday, but appreciates they will have their hands full when St Austell visit Speeds Meadow.

Cully, who had Saturday's match away to Tavistock postponed, beat Penzance 4-1 in early January – their first home league win all season.

And Taylor concedes that such a paltry number of wins on their own turf is something that needs to be remedied.

"It should be a good chance for us to pick up another win at home," he said. "I was shocked to learn our last win over Penzance was our first at home in the league, so we need more.

"St Austell play a certain way and have done ever since I have been involved in the league, and they are good at what they do.

"They are big, strong and very direct so we know we will have to prepare ourselves properly."

Meanwhile, Witheridge boss Chris Vinnicombe admits his side may find it tough to find their rhythm when Newquay visit on Saturday.

Withy are yet to play a league fixture this year, although they did beat North Molton 2-1 in a friendly last week courtesy of goals from Jordan Charran and Steve Ebdy.

Vinnicombe also saw his side's Saturday fixture – away to Ivybridge Town – postponed due to the weather, but he insists he will not put any undue pressure on his ring-rusty players.

"Having not played a competitive game for so long, it may well take us a half to get used to playing again," he said.

"I just hope we don't concede during that period and have to come from a goal down if we want to go on and win.

"But I'm not going to put any pressure on the lads – I'm not going to storm into the dressing room and say we have to win it because we don't have to.

"It would be nice if we can pick up where we left off and get that seventh win but we'll just have to wait and see."

Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey go to Penzance having drawn 0-0 with Elburton Villa.
