Thief banned from every shop in city following crime spree
PROLIFIC offender Jamie Dawson has been banned from every shop in Exeter following his latest crime spree.
Dawson, 30, from Wynford Road, Stoke Hill, was told by magistrates that someone else must do his shopping for him while he waits for sentencing for shoplifting. And if he steps foot inside retail premises he could be arrested.

Dawson has been banned from every store in Exeter as a bail condition, after admitting two thefts when he appeared in custody before Central Devon Magistrates' Court in the city.
The court heard that suspicious shopkeepers caught him in action by checking their CCTV after recognising him as he left their stores.
The Echo has previously reported how Dawson was given a two-year anti-social behaviour order in 2005 banning him from entering 24 shops in the city centre. The ban was extended by magistrates to include every shop in Exeter.
Dawson admitted stealing four bottles of wine, worth £24, from the Saunders store in Victoria Road on August 11 and two joints of beef, worth £28, from the Co-op in Heavitree on Saturday last week.
Prosecutor Narjinder Sadeghi said one of the shop staff at the Saunders store spotted Dawson on CCTV, when a police officer viewed the footage he was also able to recognise him.
Describing the second theft, she said: "He left without paying and a member of staff who knows the defendant viewed the CCTV which captured the offence."
When arrested, Dawson immediately admitted the crime and also confessed to the earlier theft when questioned.
Gareth Owens, representing the defendant, asked for him to be bailed: "He's got an address. He's well known, he has local connections. I've talked to him about bail and he's happy to be tagged if necessary.
"There's hardly a small shop that doesn't know him. They saw him leaving the shop, went back, looked at the CCTV and recognised him."
He added that Dawson had "someone who can do his shopping for him," after magistrates began considering imposing bail conditions to keep the defendant from committing further offences.
Magistrates will sentence him on September 9 and he will be electronically tagged, with a daily curfew from 7pm to 7am, as part of his bail conditions.
They added that he was not to enter any retail premises in Exeter.
Dawson was the first person to be served with an Asbo in Exeter banning him from city stores, following an application by Devon and Cornwall Police.
He was then jailed in March 2006 for breaching it, after being seen entering two of the city centre shops from which he was banned.

“Plese show some restraint, thats my son in the story and although we aren't proud of him may I remind you he hasn't had it easy.
He found out at 8 years old that his grandad was his biological parent and that affects you, then there was that unpleasant matter on that farm when he was 12, that could have been anyone and if the goat could speak I am sure it would also argue with the cctv, it was at worst mutual concent and he really loved that goat like family more than an animal.
Please take the time to get to know him rather than his extensive police history and tendency towards inapropriate behaviour towards farm animals
He is a good kid, honestly”

“You should all be more forgiving in this case, I have known him since we shared a cell in 2006.
He was full of himself at first but after three days we were friends and after a week we became lovers.
He is possibly one of the most passionate men i have ever been with, he knows things to do to other ment that I had never seen before, and his small manhood just made it more exciting.
Please come and see me soon Jamie, or if you can't come to me I can visit you again, its the same mobile number and i will bring that soap on a rope you like”

“Once again, as I commented recently, the magistrates impose a virtually useless curfew. Does he only shoplift between 7pm and 7am or have I missed something.”

“Oh this guy, the same guy you see walking around town thinking he's a gangster with his equally thieving scumbag friends. The same guy who him and his friends infest the local parks (and the police do nothing) drinking, drug taking and making everyone else feel uncomfortable from their disgusting childish behaviour.
Someone else to do his shopping?
Judging from his friends, someone else to do his shoplifting.
Sad thing is him and his mates are so utterly stupid that they probably see all this as a badge of honour or something "cool". Unfortunatly it seems they think they are living in the game GTA... when in reality they are just pathetic little scumbags with nothing better in their lives, absolutely no use to society whatsoever.
Still, I blame the police for letting this lot just walk around causing trouble without anything more than the occasional slap on the wrists.
True bottom feeding scum this lot.”

“I dont think there will be any difficulty locating this theif if he were to breach his bail. Just try the cathedral green, st petrock's homless shelter or the exeter benefits office. Failing that im sure he will be found at a homeless soup kitchen somewhere in the county.!!!”

“Can anyone understand how this guy was not given an immediate prison sentence? Given bail as he has 'someone to do his shopping'?! Astonishingly bad decision by the bench.”
