Burglars in Devon hauled away a heavy safe and stole distinctive jewellery worth thousands of pounds.

The thieves removed a ground floor window and ripped out alarm boxes before ransacking the house in Sidmouth.

They used a garden trolley to transport the safe from the property in Sid Lane.

Among the unusual items taken was a gold half hunter wind-up pocket watch, gold sovereign and crown coins bearing Winston Churchill, Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
