EXETER City development coach Andy Tillson says his club have not given up hope of getting into the npower League One play-offs.

The Grecians moved to within eight points of the top six following their 2-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Matt Taylor and Richard Logan.

Tillson said: "We are still playing for something – we will try to get to the play-offs until it's mathematically impossible. We need to go out there, impress our fans and get the points.

"We started so bright and competitive. We knew they would be (competitive), so we had to be as well and I thought we were good value for the win in the end.

"Dagenham did have their chances, plus possibly a penalty in the first half, but we always looked like we were in that frame of mind where we wouldn't give up."

Dagenham remain just a point above the relegation zone following the defeat and manager John Still was less than impressed at the manner in which his side conceded two goals in the final nine minutes.

He said: "I'm very disappointed because I thought we had done enough to win the game. When we went 1-0 up I think we were in charge.

"But then we were too lax. We gave away a free-kick we didn't have to because the ball was travelling away from goal and a stupid square pass in our third led to the goal. So that's very disappointing."

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins praised his side's supporters following their 3-2 win over MK Dons.

The visitors took a two-goal lead before Saints hit back with two goals from Jonathan Forte and one from Lee Barnard.

Adkins said: "The crowd got behind the players so much. They played such a big part in the result.

"The players have shown unbelievable character to win."

League leaders Brighton drew 2-2 with Rochdale to end their run of eight successive wins.

And Dale boss Keith Hill ended the game slightly disappointed that his play-off-chasing side had not taken all three points.

He said: "The players gave every ounce of effort to match what is the outstanding team in the league.

"We more than matched them. I think despite a few minor mistakes we made, we could have won the game."

Seagulls boss Gus Poyet was happy with his side's reaction after going behind to Will Atkinson's 22nd-minute strike.

He said: "We showed a good reaction to going behind and created problems going forward and it seemed a matter of time before we got the winner.

"We didn't respect the few things we have respected all season and we gave them the chance to get back.

"We attacked well, but it was a bit disappointing how we dealt with defensive situations."

Huddersfield Town went five points clear in the second automatic promotion position after beating Tranmere Rovers 2-0.

Benik Afobe and Lee Novak got the goals and Terriers manager Lee Clark urged his side to remain focused on the job in hand for the final few games of the season.

He said: "It's another game down, it's another three points. We know it's all about what we do – if we don't do our job properly it doesn't really matter what anyone else does."

Saturday's results: Charlton 3 Leyton Orient 1, Exeter 2 Dag & Red 1, Notts County 0 Oldham 2, Rochdale 2 Brighton 2, Sheff Wed 2 Colchester 1, Southampton 3 MK Dons 2, Swindon 1 Hartlepool 1, Tranmere 0 Huddersfield 2, Yeovil 0 Bristol Rovers 1. Friday: Peterborough 3 Bournemouth 3

“"Play off's Tillson you're as deluded and one-eyed as Crockford.
Exeter City are going nowhere unlike my beloved HUDDERSFIELD TOWN ! who will be playing championship football next year.”
