Tiverton Lantern Procession cancelled; hopes Christmas lights switch on can still go ahead
A LANTERN procession set to involve up to 300 school children as part of the run-up to the switch-on of Tiverton's Christmas lights has been cancelled due to forecasted poor weather.
Children carying willow sculpture lanterns and a live samba band were set to walk through the streets of the town at 5pm tomorrow (Saturday, November 24) but following adverse weather forecasts the decision was taken to cancel the event this afternoon. With an amber alert warning for the area isseued by the Met Office indicating heavy rain and strong winds, and at least one school saying it was unwilling to bring its pupils along, organisers reluctantly chose to cancel the event.
