Tiverton Town's hopes of three Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West points on Saturday came to nothing when they were sunk by Swindon Supermarine at Ladysmead.

The margin of the visitors' away win did not flatter the Wiltshire side, who fully deserved the 2-0 success which left them in third place in the league table and kept Tivvy down in tenth spot.

The hosts' margin of defeat could have been greater. Tivvy goalkeeper Chris Wright saved a Josh Parsons penalty in the third minute and then Parsons sent a shot against the crossbar in the 15th minute, moments before Wright did well to save a strike from Ashley Edenborough.

The pressure paid off after half an hour, when Chris Taylor smashed home a low shot after being set up by Ron Dean to give Supermarine the lead. The visitors continued to hold the upper hand after the half-time break, but they did not extend their advantage until eight minutes before the final whistle.

Tiverton posed a belated threat in the closing stages, but it was to no avail as Edenborough converted a close-range chance after Wright had saved his initial attempt.

Mark Saunders' Tivvy side will return to action with another home game against North Leigh tomorrow.

Taunton Town gave a debut to on-loan Torquay United defender Kyrtis McKenzie in Saturday's Division One South and West 1-0 home win over Wimborne Town.

The only goal of the match came in the 63rd minute, when Rodney Marsh forced the ball home after goalkeeper Jason Harvell had saved his initial attempt. Taunton have an away game tonight against bottom team Bishop's Cleeve.

In the same division, Bridgwater Town were beaten 2-1 at Yate Town. All the goals came in the second quarter of the game, with Karim Rendall and Mike Bryant putting the hosts two up before Ross McNab responded for the visitors.

Bridgwater are also back in action this evening, when they go to Mangotsfield United.

Bideford's Premier Division away game against Kettering Town at Corby yesterday was postponed due to snowfall.

In the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on Saturday, Ilfracombe Town were thrashed 6-0 at Gillingham Town, for whom Lee Gale scored a hat-trick, while Barnstaple Town were beaten 3-0 at home by Wells City.

Willand Rovers won 2-0 at Winterbourne United, while Buckland Athletic prevailed 2-1 at Odd Down with goals from Gavin Hammon and James Mudge.
