Police, an ambulance and a fire crew were called to junction 27 of the M5 heading southbound at 11:25am today.
A silver Mini Cooper registered to Tiverton had collided with the central reservation and came to rest in the outside lane.
The incident has happened just two days after a 47-year-old man died in a multi-vehicle crash on the M5 between junctions 29 and 28.
Four cars and an HGV were involved in a shunt-type collision at the end of a tailback caused by an earlier collision between a camper van and a saloon car which has left a woman seriously injured.
Police are advising motorists to drive carefully.
