SOME 2,000 Exeter students raised an estimated £30,000 at an annual charity event to promote safe sex.

The University of Exeter's Safer Sex Ball, which was in its 18th year, is the UK's largest World Aids Day event outside London.

It was organised by members of the University of Exeter Students' Guild Raising and Giving group.

Around £20,000 will go to local Aids charity Positive Action South West.

The remaining £10,000 will go to RAG's nominated charities — Children of Peace, KidsCan, Operation Imprezza and Vulval Health Awareness Campaign.

It will help fund the Students' Guild Community Action volunteering group's Summer Adventures, a two-week camp for young carers in Devon.

Students at the ball were entertained by music from Just Jack, Jaguar Skills, the Guild's Campus Bands Society and local DJs.
