Young people from across Devon are gaining an insight into a wealth of possible careers at an event in Exeter today as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

At a business breakfast earlier, speakers from Serco, ETS and others explained the benefits for employers of hiring apprentices.

County council leader John Hart said: “We believe in apprenticeships and we believe in apprentices. It’s a very good way of bringing people in, getting them to work, giving them experience and at the same time growing your own staff for the future.”

Howard Stamp, 20, a business administration apprentice with NHS Devon, said: “My experience has been excellent. I didn’t expect it but now I see myself on a career with the NHS. I’m continuing to learn and develop as a person.”
