The video footage shows the man crouching down on numerous occasions, which is when the alleged offence took place.

The employee informed the store manager and they looked back at the CCTV footage.

"I'm used to having customers around me and having arms stretched out, but I did not look up until the end," he said.

"I had no idea what was going on. I thought it was all a bit strange.

"I was shocked and I couldn't believe he was in the aisle for that long."

The incident occurred on Saturday October 31 at about 10am. A week later on Saturday November 7 at about noon, the suspect returned.

Dc Steve White, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are treating this incident very seriously and we would appeal to the public's help in tracking down this man.

"It is a bizarre incident and the shop was full of people.

"Someone must have seen the man and could well help us identify him."

A Co-operative Group spokeswoman said: "We are working with the police to attempt to identify a man who is suspected of sexually assaulting a member of our staff in the Plymouth area on two occasions.

"The assaults took place on two consecutive Saturdays – October 31 and November 7.

"The Co-operative takes issues of staff welfare very seriously, and we would appeal to anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward to the police."

The man is described as being white, clean shaven and of medium to large build.

During the first incident he was wearing a brown T-shirt with jeans and black shoes and glasses.

During the second incident the man was wearing a blue shirt with jeans.

Anyone with any information is urged to call the police on 08452 777 444 quoting the crime reference number EL09 5316.

Alternatively, witnesses can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“he was clearly a sniffer dog in a previous life and the worker was keeping his joint in his back pocket, the sniffer promptly sat down indicating but nobody there had the adequate training to read these signals.

The worker clearly went to town with aftershave to cover the smell which if you've ever introduced after shave to that part of the body you will know its not going to end well, standing in the fridge of cheese is not going to cover your scented crimes young man, not with the sniffer lad about
