A hoard of zombies invaded Exeter city centre on Saturday afternoon hobbling down the High Street and through Princesshay leaving a trial of amusement and confusion in their path.

The 2012 Exeter Zombie walk is an annual event in its second year and invates those of all ages to dress up as the undead and march from the Bus Station to The Phoenix club where the Halloween Zombie ball is held that night.

Mike James, from Phonic FM’s Rock Show, organised the event with the hope it will repeat last years success and be included in the ‘Top 100 Zombie Walks’ list.

Mike said: “It is growing and growing year on year out by the looks of it, we are trying to get higher in the ranking this year. Its a great event and something a bit different from your average day in the city centre.”

Along the route those dressed up and the observing public were treated to a drumming session and the rare chance to see a zombie dance off.

The first zombie walk on record was in 2001 in California as a way to promote a film festival. The world record for the largest zombie walk is around 10,000 participants and was set in Mexico City last year, Exeter’s attempt featured roughly 300 walkers a similar amount to last year's march.

Brian Hill, a Zombie from Exmouth, said: “Its just a great laugh amongst people who share the same interest. There are some pretty amazing costumes here.” Going on to add: “Argggggg argggg brainnnns! brainnnns!”
