ABOUT 80 cyclists donned vintage costumes and took part in a light-hearted jaunt near Exmouth.

With the tag line "time to cycle, converse, take tea and dress with style", the second Velo Vintage event was organised once again by East Devon cyclist Alistair Cope, following a hugely-popular event in September.

The Cycle West-sponsored event saw riders dress in an assortment of striking outfits befitting of the 1920s through to the 1980s.

The cyclists met at the Christmas Cracker event in Exmouth's Strand Gardens and did two laps, to the delight of some onlookers.

The group then headed off towards the cycle track which follows the disused railway line to Budleigh Salterton.

The group then convened at National Trust-owned Prattshayes Farm, where plenty of mulled wine and mince pies were enjoyed to music provided by performers from Blitz and Pieces.

Alistair, said: "We had a real combination of bikes on show, from 1910 right up to the modern day.

"Everyone was wrapped up warm in hats and scarfs and it was very much a social event, exactly as it was supposed to be.

"We had a mix of cyclists as well, from semi-professionals to those trying to get back into cycling again, which was lovely. It was a really enjoyable day and no one really wanted it to finish."

Alistair is planning more events next year, including a large-scale occasion to take place in Exeter.
