Village of 150 raises total of £175,000 to open shop
RESIDENTS of Ide turned out in force to celebrate the opening of their own village shop.
They had raised £175,000 in 12 months to get the new store up and running.
The original shop, opened in 2008, occupied a Portakabin in the village car park, and Teignbridge council wanted the parking spaces back.
First, suitable premises were identified, £175,000 was then raised enabling the group to transform an old warehouse into a stylish and spacious new shop and post office.

Local builders and locally-sourced timber were used in the construction and all the interior decoration and shopfitting were carried out by some local volunteers.
The new shop will be selling the same wide range of items as the old shop, including lots of locally sourced products, but will now be able to accommodate many new lines.
There was an official opening ceremony with villagers, contractors, suppliers, funders and elected representatives joining together to celebrate the successful conclusion of this massive project.
The large scale of this achievement is put into context by the fact Ide's population is about 450.
