The Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow and ice for the South West this evening.

According to the Exeter-based agency, Devon can expect below-freezing temperatures and the possibility of snow throughout the night.

Drivers are advised to take extra care when travelling over the weekend, with ice expected to be present on the region’s roads.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “As temperatures fall below freezing on Friday evening, ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces across a wide area of England.

“The public should be aware that driving conditions could become hazardous as a result.

“Whilst there is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest and most persistent snow will fall, accumulations of up to about 10cm are possible in the worst affected regions.

“The public are advised to take extra care.”
