Westcountry stages of Tour of Britain will be screened live on TV

Westcountry scenery will provide a stunning backdrop for the Tour of Britain, when all eight stages are televised on ITV4 this week.

It will be the first time that action from every day of the eight-stage cycle race, which started yesterday in Ipswich, has been broadcast live, both via ITV4 and streamed online through the ITV website. The Tour will also be shown live in Europe, Ireland, Australia, USA, Canada and Africa.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "It's a great way to showcase our county to a worldwide audience. This demonstrates that The Tour of Britain is now one of the world's major cycling tours."

As well as the two-hours of live coverage from every stage, the hour-long daily highlights will also continue to be broadcast every evening on ITV4. That will include the 106-mile Devon Stage on Saturday September 15, which starts in Barnstaple, to Dartmoor and ends in Dartmouth.It will pass Bideford, Hatherleigh, Instow, Great Torrington, Okehampton, Princetown, Tavistock, Buckfastleigh, Kingsbridge, Torcross and Stoke Fleming.

Organisers also said Team GB will return to the race for the first time since 2008, represented by British Under-23 riders George Atkins, Owain Doull, Josh Edmondson, Tom Moses, Alastair Slater and Simon Yates.
