Wind and tides to halt rail services
SOME train services between Exeter and Plymouth along a coastal railway line will be cancelled in very bad weather, Cross Country Trains has said.
The company's Voyager trains stopped running for a time last week because of high tides in Dawlish. Sea spray has affected the electrics in the trains in the past.
Cross Country said it had agreed with Network Rail to stop running trains during high tides and strong winds to prevent the line being blocked.
Modifications have been carried out on the Voyagers' engines, but Cross Country said there was still a possibility a train could break down in bad weather.
Bus services will operate if trains are cancelled.
Services operated by First Great Western, which uses different engines, will not be affected.
