Young songwriter scoops top award
A YOUNG Exeter singer-songwriter has won a top title in the UK Songwriting Contest.
Jamie Hawkins, of King Arthur's Road, took the folk/acoustic class title in the competition which attracted thousands of entries from around the UK.
Jamie's song, Bloody Good Christmas, won over the judges with one, producer, arranger and musical director Richard Niles describing it as: "Powerful, utterly original, articulate, heartfelt, emotional, very well constructed and superb in every way."
Jamie said: "I am really delighted to have won the title and I hope that it will help me get my name known in songwriting.

"I've been writing songs for some years now. Songwriting, for me, is a positive outlet and a way of expressing myself. I hope to one day be successful enough to be able to write songs for a living.
"I enjoy performing but am most comfortable in the background scribbling away in my dog-eared notebook."
