Children open new convenience store

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 23:00

CHILDREN opened a new convenience store in the centre of Exeter.

More than 30 new jobs have been created at the Sainsbury's Local outlet, in Sidwell Street, and pupils from nearby St Sidwell's School cut the ribbon to open the new 2,400 sq ft store yesterday.

In return, manager Simon Clover presented them with some Active Kids equipment for the school.

Mr Clover said: "Customers like the convenience of having a small Sainsbury's on their doorstep, which they can walk to and pick up everyday essentials or can shop at on their way home.

"We're really looking forward to playing an active role in the community."

Mark Rush, Sainsbury's real estate project Manager, added: "Sidwell Street provides the ideal location for one of our convenience stores.

"It will help to support trade in the northern part of the city centre and will provide local residents with the convenience of having a small Sainsbury's store on their doorstep."

The first customer was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne and other customers were given a free reusable Bag for Life to mark the opening day.

Opening hours are 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.
