Excited youngsters all set for must-see musical extravaganza

Wednesday, October 01, 2008, 23:00

YOUNGSTERS are counting down the days until the release of the must-see third film in Disney's hit series High School Musical.

Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor from the first two movies are back for their first big screen outing.

Unlike the previous films, which were just screened on television, High School Musical 3: Senior Year can be seen in UK cinemas from October 24, with advance screenings on October 22 and 23.

Pupils from Clyst St Mary Primary School, near Exeter, are among those across the county who cannot wait to see it.

Philly Laverick, 10, loved the first two films so much, she recorded them on video, and is excited about the new one.

"I have seen it advertised and think it looks very good," she said.

"I like High School Musical because it's got good characters and I think it's good how they meet at the beginning. And I like the songs.

"My favourite character is Sharpay because she bosses everyone around and she has a good singing voice."

Like the previous films, the movie is set at American high school, East High in New Mexico.

It focuses on Troy Bolton, captain of school basketball team Varsity Wildcats, and his girlfriend Gabriella Montez.

The couple face being separated from each other as it is their final year at school and they are going to different colleges.

Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage a spring musical reflecting their fears, hopes and dreams for the future.

Lili Simons, eight, is a fan of the DVDs of the first and second films and wants to see more romance in the latest movie.

"I like the films because of all the singing and dancing," she said.

Emily Raybould, seven, also has the first two films on DVD. She said: "I have seen the other films and I think it's quite good, because of the characters. I like the singing and my favourite characters are Troy and Sharpay."

As well as the original cast, there will be some new faces as some of the sophomore Wildcats join in.

Craig Chudley, 10, said: "I have seen the first two and thought they were quite good and I think the third one is going to be even better.

"My favourite character is Troy because he's sporty and I like sport."

Charlotte Herbert, 10, is such a fan, she has CDs of music from both films, a poster and two drawers full of stickers.

She said: "I like the fact that it's encouraging people to sing and dance. I have been singing my whole life and I have started dancing more."

The audience is also promised new songs and exciting dance routines.

Caitlin Dart, 10, said: "I like the characters and songs and my favourite character is Gabriella because she's a really good singer and she's pretty."

To celebrate the release of the film, Echo readers have the chance to win a High School Musical 3 night out in Friday's paper. The winner will enjoy a family meal for four at Nandos then head to the Odeon to see the movie. Plus we have four sets of family tickets for readers to win.
