From tomorrow, the Theatre Royal in Plymouth will be a alive with energetic dancing and exuberant singing.
A stellar cast, from the worlds of television, theatre and music, will explode on to the stage with an invigorating energy that will no doubt infect the crowd.
Producer David Ian said: “To have put together a star cast of this calibre for the world premiere of this exciting musical is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Based on the Paramount Pictures film (screenplay by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszterhas, story by Tom Hedley), Flashdance — The Musical tells the story of holding onto your dreams and love against all the odds.
Set in Pittsborough, USA, 18-year-old Alex Owens' life story is told with pulsating raw energy and breathtaking choreography.
A welder by day and a 'flashdancer' by night, Alex dreams of obtaining a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy.
Featuring the iconic score, which includes the Academy Award-winning title track Flashdance — What a Feeling, the world premiere is sure to set toes tapping and voices soaring.
The principal cast includes Victoria Hamilton-Barritt taking the lead role of Alex. Victoria has starred in West End productions of Mamma Mia!, Fame and Desperately Seeking Susan.
Choreographer Arlene Phillips is best known as a judge on BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing.
When asked about choosing Victoria for the main role, she said: “After searching the country high and low and seeing hundreds of girls for the part of Alex, I suddenly remembered the stunning Victoria Hamilton-Barritt.
“She had played a leading role in Saturday Night Fever in the West End and I invited her to audition. She is the only girl who we believe can sing, act and dance this role to the standard we need.”
Flashdance — The Musical is on stage at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, from tomorrow until Saturday, August 2.
Tickets range from £10 to £29.50 and are available from the box office on 01752 267222 or at www.theatreroyal.com.
