Blow for City as in-form winger Noone is recalled

EXETER City manager Paul Tisdale has revealed his disappointment after winger Craig Noone was recalled by Plymouth Argyle.

Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock hinted last week that he was considering bringing him back to Home Park.

And City's worst fears were realised yesterday, when the impressive 21-year-old was forced to quit St James's Park halfway through his three-month loan spell.

"Craig has been terrific for us and we are disappointed he has been recalled," said Tisdale. "I would like to thank him for all his efforts and, if the opportunity arises in the future, we would be delighted to bring him back to St James's Park.

"At the end of the day he is their player. He has done very well for us, although he has missed a few games through injury.

"But they have every right to take him back. That is the deal and it is not something I can do anything about. He had to go back at some point. Whether that was now or in a few weeks' time that was not for us to decide."

The winger made his City debut in the 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient in September, when he scored a freak equaliser. He went on to make seven starts for the Grecians and his last contribution came on Saturday, when he netted a stunning goal in the 3-0 win over Brentford at St James's Park.

Sturrock says a spate of injuries in his squad, coupled with Noone's form since he arrived at St James's Park, persuaded him to recall the winger.

"We've had some injuries and suspensions over recent weeks and I just felt we needed the right armoury for the games to come," said Sturrock.

"Craig has done very well at Exeter and he gives us another attacking option with his ability to beat people on the wing. We have had him monitored regularly and I'm pleased to have him back."

Tisdale added: "He certainly brought something different to us. He added value and, when he is on song like he was on Saturday, he was a real asset for us.

"He has got good set-piece delivery and he has got an eye for goal as well. He was a good addition to our squad and the most important thing is that he enjoyed his football with us.

"If players are enjoying their work and enjoying the environment, then that is a good starting place.

"Players progress if they are playing regularly and he has done that since he has been with us."
