MATT Jess thinks Exeter  Chiefs will improve as a side  after playing three tough  games on the bounce.

The Championship leaders  take their unbeaten record to  Bedford on Saturday before  playing Nottingham and the  Cornish Pirates.

Winger Jess, who crossed  for a brace in Saturday’s defeat of Rotherham, says his  side will not be letting up in  any of the matches.

And while he says Exeter  will be happy to grind out  wins against the other top  sides, they will also be out to  grab a try bonus as well if  they can.

The 43-10 victory over the  Titans at Sandy Park  stretched the Chiefs’ winning  sequence to eight.

However, they face a big  test at Goldington Road this  weekend, where they have  won only four times since  league rugby began in 1987.

Jess said: “We have to put  our mistakes to bed because  we’ve got three hard games in  a row now with Bedford, Nottingham and then the Cornish Pirates.

“Everyone’s got the next  three games in their  heads. Nottingham are a  great team, the Pirates  have dropped off a bit after  a good start but they’re  still a great team and Bedford are as well.

“We can’t take our foot  off the pedal at the moment. If we have to grind  out the wins then that’s  what we’ll do, as long as  we’re winning we’ll be  happy.

“We’ll hone in on the  mistakes we made on Saturday and hopefully become a better side.”

With Birmingham &  Solihull expected to go out  of business this week,  their record this season  may be wiped out.

That means Exeter’s  51-21 win would be void   and they would lose five  points to drop below Nottingham in the table.

With that in mind, Jess  said it was important they  picked up their fourth  bonus-point win of the  campaign last weekend.

“We’ve been looking at  the table and it’s nice to be  sitting pretty at the top,”  he said.

“If those points (against  Birmingham) do go we  lose a bonus point win but  we got another one on Saturday and that’s a massive  positive for us.

“We’re not going to pull  the reins back against  Bedford and Nottingham,  if the five points are there  to be taken we’ll grab  them. The wins are the  most important thing, if  we keep progressing as we  are throughout the season  it’s going to take us to a  really good stage after  Christmas.”
