7pm: Police are investigating the theft of a car which was later found burnt out.

The white Vauxhall Astra, registration J104 HMU, was stolen from outside an address in Stanwey, Heavitree, Exeter.

It was later discovered burnt out on playing fields at Bettysmead, near Beacon Heath.

The car was noticed to be missing at around 6am on Sunday, October 26.

Anyone who saw the car being stolen or who has any information is asked to contact PC Emily Sheppard on 08452 777444 quoting crime reference number DE/08/12696.

6pm: Coastal protection strategies should be broadened to cover various types of pollution, an inquiry into the beaching of a storm damaged container ship off Sidmouth has heard.

A week-long hearing into the events surrounding the deliberate grounding of the 62,000 tonne MSC Napoli on a World Heritage Coast has begun in Exeter.

The fully laden vessel, the hull of which was split by a Channel storm, was beached in January last year.

About 50 of the vessel's containers which washed ashore at nearby Branscombe beach were pillaged by hundreds of members of the public, making global headlines.

5pm: Two butterfingered burglars were jailed today – all because they dropped some of the proceeds from a shop raid.

Robert McIntyre and Andrew Henshall broke into Halfords store in Torquay, Devon, and stole two tills.

As they fled they dropped a trail of coins which a police dog tracked – and they were found hiding nearby.

They each still had some of the stolen cash on them, prosecutor Ann Hampshire told Exeter Crown Court.

Henshall, 28, from Torquay, and McIntyre also 28, from Oldham, both pleaded guilty to burglary and theft.

Each was jailed for 26 weeks, and Henshall was given a further 20 weeks for breaching a suspended sentence, to run consecutively.

3pm: Inspectors who found Exeter Tutorial College failed to complete essential paperwork have said all regulations have now been met.

After an Ofsted visit 18 months ago, officials noticed the private college, on Magdalen Road, failed to comply with a wide range of rules.

2pm: The Bishop of Exeter is to dedicate a restored First World War locomotive which operated on the Western Front to commemorate Armistice Day.

The Rt Rev Michael Langrish will perform the ceremony on Tuesday next week, the 90th anniversary of the end of the Great War.

1pm: Visit Devon, the destination management organisation that develops and promotes tourism in the county, has passed the 1,000-member milestone.

Since its launch in April this year, the partnership has seen membership grow by nearly 30 per cent.

Noon: Locals are hoping lessons will be learned as a public inquiry into the grounding of the MSC Napoli gets under way.

A committee of inquiry set up by Devon County Council was today set to begin hearing evidence from those caught up in the aftermath of the beaching of the stricken container ship off the East Devon coast in January 2007.

10am: A man arrested after drugs, cash, cigarettes and clothing were seized in a police raid has been freed on bail.

The 66-year-old from Exmouth was released after being arrested on suspicion of intent to supply controlled substances and money laundering.

9am: Police dog Razor tracked a suspected burglar following a theft in the Blundell's Avenue area of Tiverton.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, taken to Heavitree Road police station. He was later released on police bail to return on January 7.

8am: Family members in Wiltshire have been informed after a driver died in a crash on the A30 in East Devon.

The accident happened shortly after 3am on Sunday morning on the A30 at Monkton, near Honiton.
