A TAXI firm that has been a familiar sight on Honiton's High Street for the past 30 years has added to its fleet by merging with Dunkeswell-based Blackdown Cars.

The latest expansion for Horseshoe Taxis comes after it absorbed K-Cars, another local firm, in November last year following the retirement of Ken Arber after 21 years in the trade.

Horseshoe's owner Sheila Huffer said: "Merging with Blackdown Cars signifies another step in our planned expansion and we are very pleased to welcome Simon Smith, Blackdown's owner, to the team.

"Simon has a wealth of experience having worked in the industry for 13 years, as well as first-class local knowledge and a reputation for delivering excellent customer service.

"He will fill a vital role in our company, working as our Honiton-based operations manager."
