7pm: Swift action by a lifeboat crew and a paramedic helped save a man with a suspected heart attack in a Devon river.

The man who was alone on board a 28ft trimaran was rescued by Exmouth lifeboat in the River Exe off Starcross.

Crew members including the paramedic gave oxygen and cardiac drugs to reduce the pain after the man alerted Brixham Coastguards complaining of chest pains

6pm: A pensioner from Axminster who was killed when his car hit a road sign may have fallen ill at the wheel.

He was driving a Rover 75 when it crashed on the A35 near Charmouth at about 6pm last night.

His wife, who was a passenger in the car, was unhurt. The identity of the dead man has yet to be released.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

5PM: A previously unseen letter from Lewis Carroll to the real life Alice is to be auctioned in Exeter.

In the letter, which has a guide price of £4,000-£6,000 and was written to Alice Liddell when she an adult of 25, the author appears to be rebutting rumours about his interest in children.

4PM: Cutbacks to Jobcentres in Devon has left the service struggling to cope in the face of rising unemployment with the credit crunch government critics have warned.

It comes as figures show a sharp rise in the number of outstanding dole claims waiting to be dealt with by the benefit processing office in Exeter.

3PM: Firefighters freed a man trapped in a tractor today.

Two crews from Topsham and the rescue tender from Exmouth were called to Bonds Lane, Woodbury Salterton, shortly before 1pm.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

2PM: Work will start on extending the residents' parking zone restrictions in St Thomas on Monday.

The scheme, which will be implemented in early December, will convert unrestricted waiting areas within the zone to either residents' parking or limited waiting bays.

1PM: Fire investigation experts suspect a blaze which gutted a £2 million country mansion in Devon was caused by spontaneous combustion.

More than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at 18th century Combe Hill, owned by financier Edmund Lazarus, at Combe Raleigh, near Honiton.

NOON: Father Christmas and his elves are coming to Exeter tomorrow for the Guildhall Shopping Centre Christmas Parade.

Father Christmas will ride down the High Street on his sleigh, drawn by real reindeer, before opening his grotto behind St Pancras Church in the middle of the Guildhall Shopping Centre.

11AM: Traffic is being disrupted on the A38 southbound at Haldon Hill, near Exeter, following a crash.

Police say three vehicles were involved in the collision which happened shortly after 10am.

10AM: A car driver has been arrested in East Devon on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

The 27-year-at old was stopped on the A35 at Kilmington at 1am today.

Three establishments in Sidmouth — The Black Horse, The Swan Inn and Old Ship Inn — were targeted on Tuesday afternoon.
