City pub event boosts new cancer charity's funds

ALMOST £500 has been raised by an Exeter pub for a newly-established cancer charity which one of its customers supports.

The Showman pub, in St Thomas, organised a bingo session and pink-themed raffle to raise money for the charity Against Breast Cancer.

Landlady Debbie Andrew said: “We made about £255 from the bingo and £150 from the raffle. But we have had lots of donations put in the charity collection box, too, so we reckon there will be about £500 raised in total.

“The pub was really busy and we had a lot of support for the event. It went really well.”

She added: “The charity was chosen as one of our customers came in one day and said her mum had suffered from the disease and asked if we could sell badges to raise money.

“I said we would but thought while we were doing that we could go one step further and organise some events to raise even more money.”
