Ellie is celebrating Fin's Song success

ELLIE Williams is celebrating after her fundraising first single entered the online charts.

Fin's Song, proceeds of which will go to the children's charity the NSPCC, was released on Monday.

Yesterday, the song was at number two in the Amazon folk chart and number 208 in the main song chart.

The song hit number one in the folk charts and 67 in the main song chart on Thursday.

Fin's Song is the NSPCC's Christmas fundraising single.

The 29-year-old singer- songwriter, from Dunsford Hill, St Thomas, Exeter, said: "We were really fortunate. I suddenly started getting lots of messages on Facebook with people saying 'let's make sure we buy it at the same time'.

"All my friends on Facebook got behind it and sent it to all of their friends. It was really nice to see it climbing up the song chart.

"You never know how these things are going to go and I wanted to make sure it was a success for the NSPCC and we can raise as much money as possible for them. It's nice to see everyone getting behind it.

"I want to say thanks for all the support and thanks to Echo readers as well. I have been getting more and more emails from people who said they saw it in the Echo."

Ellie wrote Fin's Song about her nephew Finley when he was a baby.

She said: "It was about all the things I wanted to say to him and all the things I hoped he would be able to do in his life."

She performed it at the official launch of her debut album, Unseen, at Exeter Phoenix on Monday. "Thanks to everyone who supported the launch at the Phoenix," she said. "It was an amazing night — the best gig of my life so far."

The Echo teamed up with Ellie to launch the single with our Charity Chart Challenge which has two aims: to generate money for the charity and to help launch Ellie's career.

The proceeds will be donated to the NSPCC's Child's Voice Appeal that aims to expand the free phone support service ChildLine, which has a centre in Exeter, by training more volunteer counsellors.

Ellie raised the money to record her album through the website Sellaband which allows listeners to buy shares in musicians for £5 each until £25,000 has been raised.

Ellie attended Exeter College, St Peter's High School and Heavitree Middle School in Exeter.
